How Does Food Work on a Disney Cruise?

Remember when we were thrilled that free dining was back at Disney World? Disney Cruises take it a step further. It knows cruising and the fresh sea air makes for hungry tummies. That’s why food on Disney cruises is as abundant as all the fun. From magical dining experiences to gourmet adults only options, midnight snacks to meals in-between meals and a whole host of delicious sweets and treats, the only thing you’ll crave is a longer cruise.

A Quick Overview of Disney Cruise Dining Options

No two Disney Cruise ships are the same and neither are their dining options. Each ship offers a blend of rotational dining, specialty restaurants, casual eateries, and unique culinary experiences.

Understanding how dining works on a Disney Cruise can help you make the most of your vacation.

Importance of Planning Your Meals on a Disney Cruise

One of the best things about Disney cruise food is that most of it is included in your cruise fare, including 24/7 room service. There are a few speciality experiences that you may want to try that need reservations, so you don’t miss out.

Onboard Dining Options

Your Disney Cruise Line Navigator App is your magic wand when it comes to planning activities and meals too. It tells you your dining schedule and table number, so you know where to go. There are usually two seating options for dinner, the earlier seating begins at 5:45 PM and the later seating begins at 8:15 PM, so you’ll have plenty of time to catch stage performances before or after!

Main Dining Rooms: Rotational Dining and Menu Options

Each Disney cruise ship has three themed restaurants, and their rotational dining system makes dinner deliciously uncomplicated, letting you experience each of them in turn. Your wait staff rotates with you too, so you and the family are guaranteed familiar faces who learn exactly what you like (and dislike!) along with your food preferences. Naturally, each of the restaurants caters to little guests with a children’s menu they’re guaranteed to love.

Here’s what you’ll find on each of the Disney Cruise Line ships:

Disney Ship Restaurants
Disney Magic Animator’s Palate, Rapunzel’s Royal Table, Lumiere’s
Disney Wonder Animator’s Palate, Tiana’s Place, Triton’s
Disney Dream Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, The Royal Palace
Disney Fantasy Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, The Royal Court
Disney Wish 1923, Worlds of Marvel, Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure
Disney Treasure 1923, Worlds of Marvel, Plaza de Coco
Disney Destiny Pridelands: Feast of the Lion King (upcoming)

These sit-down dinner restaurants offer enchanted dining experiences right out of your favourite Disney movies. Live shows and interactive performances keep the Disney magic alive while you eat. Oh, and did we mention dining is complementary and essentially unlimited? So, order as much of your favourite foods as you like!

Specialty Restaurants: Adult-Only and Upscale Dining Experiences

If you fancy getting away from the little ones for an elegant adults-only night, you can reserve a place at one of the Disney Cruise Line’s adult-exclusive specialty restaurants for an additional fee.

Don’t forget to pack your suit to wear to these chic restaurants! If you plan a date night once you’re on-board sans formal attire, you can ask the maître d’ who can lend you what you need (at no extra cost) to meet the dress code.

  • Palo: Spend a dreamy night in Venice at this Italian-inspired fine dining restaurant.
  • Remy: Found on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, the Remy lets you pair elegant French wines with exquisite French cuisine.
  • Enchanté: Romance abounds in this restaurant, exclusive to the Disney Wish. Sneak away for a cheeky brunch or an elegant dinner.

Adult-Only Bars and Lounges: Specialty Cocktails and Entertainment

Each ship has themed bars and lounges offering craft cocktails, live music, and entertainment. Places like the Quiet Cove Pool Bar are located near adult-only pools while elegant bars like Soul Cat Lounge on the Disney Magic offer classy cocktails in enchanted settings.

Casual Dining Options: Buffets, Cafes, and Quick-Service Restaurants

Many restaurants like the Royal Palace, Enchanted Garden, Lumiere’s and Triton’s serve breakfast and dinner. If you’re looking for something more casual, you’ll find buffet-style Cabanas on all ships, except the Disney Wish, which offer made-to-order omelets, waffles, fruit and more for breakfast and salads, burgers, and sandwiches for dinner. The Disney Wish has Marceline Market, a marketplace-inspired buffet for casual meals. Various ships offer poolside grills, pizzerias, and cafes serving snacks and beverages.

Food Allergies and Special Dietary Needs

Like the Lady and the Tramp who love their spaghetti and Tiana who likes her beignets, the Disney Cruise line knows that many visitors have special dietary needs. All you have to do is let them know of any food allergies or preferences when booking, and let the crew know when you board. Every ship offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. If you need kosher or halal meals, they do ask you to let them know five weeks before you sail.

Beverage Options and Packages

Sodas, water, coffees and teas are complimentary at dining rooms and self-serve stations, apart from a few speciality items. If you fancy something more adult, the Disney Cruise Line offers alcoholic and specialty drink packages for an extra charge including beer and wine packages and bottled water packages for your stateroom. You can take a deep draught into Disney’s alcohol packages here.

Snacks and Room Service

With all the food options available, it’s completely possible to get off a Disney cruise without paying a penny for food – even after activities that get you hungry, like a thrilling ride on the AquaDuck.

Snack Options: Poolside, Theater, and Mid-Night Munchies

Enjoy free snacks by the pool or during shows. Specialty treats, such as popcorn and candy, are available for purchase.

Room Service: Menu Options and Delivery Times

Room service is available 24/7 until 1:30 am on your final night. Order from a menu that includes favourites like charcuterie boards, chicken tenders, hot dogs or ask for breakfast that you can eat while getting ready for a big day.

Special Dining Experiences

Special dining experiences can make your Disney cruise even more memorable. Look out for special wine and food pairing events, champagne brunches, and a whole lot more when booking your cruise.

Private Dining Experience

Dining aboard a ship has never been so luxurious. Guests aboard the Disney Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, and Magic can dine al fresco at the Palo on the private outdoor teak deck. The Palo Steakhouse offers private dining room experiences with special prix fixe and a la carte menus.

Character Dining: Meet and Greet with Disney Characters

Enjoy a magical dining experience with beloved Disney characters during themed meals. The Disney Wish, for example, offers a special picnic for little guests aged from three to 12, with Olaf, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff at Arendelle castle.
