My First Disney Cruise Aboard The Disney Wish: A Magical Experience!

Ahoy, fellow adventurers! Grab your life jackets (just kidding, sort of) and come aboard as I share my first-ever Disney Cruise experience, aboard the Disney Wish! Now, this wasn’t just any cruise—it was my debut into the world of cruising in general. Yes, I was that person who had never set foot on a cruise ship before. But the Disney magic made me feel like a seasoned sailor
in no time!
I had the honour of joining Timeless Tales Travel on an Agent Education Program, where myself and three other agents set sail on the Disney Wish to experience the ship firsthand and expand our knowledge of what guests can expect. Spoiler alert: Disney didn’t just deliver a cruise; they delivered an unforgettable experience!
Setting Sail: “Sea” You Later to Any Fears!
Let’s be real for a second—I had some mild apprehensions about being out in the vast ocean. I mean, being at sea in the middle of nowhere? The very thought gave me the heebie-jeebies. Plus, I wasn’t sure how my stomach would handle the rocking waves (I mean, what if I ended up tossing my chicken fingers overboard?). But fear not, my fellow travelers, because my sea legs adjusted quickly. The first night was a bit wobbly, but after that, I was smooth sailing! And speaking of the ocean… the views? Absolutely breathtaking!
Watching the ship glide through the water under a starry sky was like something straight out of a Disney movie. And let me tell you, nothing beats the calming sensation of fresh sea air, the sound of waves crashing, and the twinkling lights below deck as we sailed into the night.
Disney Wish: A Ship Full of Magic (and So Much to Do!)
Now, let’s talk about the ship. The Disney Wish is packed with activities, and trying to decide what to do was like being a kid in a candy store. Once you board, you get access to your sailing’s itinerary via your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, and let me tell you—there was something happening every 30 minutes! I’m talking arts and crafts, wine and beer tastings (hello, relaxation!), karaoke, character meet-and-greets, and more. Disney knows how to keep you entertained, and honestly, I didn’t know where to start!
But let’s talk about something near and dear to my heart: trivia. Disney offers trivia throughout the day (music from different genres and eras, Muppets, Disney facts—you name it). Guess what? I won one of those coveted trivia medals! (Okay, okay, I may have had a slight advantage, but I’m still basking in the glory.) Pro tip: if you love trivia, make sure to pencil it into your schedule—it’s more competitive than you think!
The Food: A Disney Feast for the Ages
Next up, the real question—how was the food? I’ll tell you this much: if eating were an Olympic sport, I’d be taking home another medal. On a Disney cruise, you experience rotational dining, which means you’ll get to dine at a new restaurant every night (and maybe even a few times at some of them, depending on how long you’re sailing). But here’s the best part: you’ll have the same servers every night. They get to know your preferences—like, “Oh, no cilantro for you? No problem!” And if your kiddo only wants mac and cheese (it happens), they’ll have it ready. It’s like dining with friends who totally get you and bring you additional bread baskets because – bread is life.
We experienced three amazing dining locations:
Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure—A celebration of Anna and Kristoff’s
engagement. Picture a lively Norwegian-inspired restaurant with characters, songs, and
plenty of festive cheer.
1923—An elegant, art deco-style restaurant with classic Disney memorabilia on display.
You could easily spend hours admiring the vintage film pieces.
Worlds of Marvel—The highlight for me! If you love superheroes (and who doesn’t?),
this immersive experience was an absolute blast. Plus, the food here? It was Thor-oughly
amazing!
But if you’re in the mood for something a little more casual, make sure to check out Mickey’s Festival of Foods, a convenient, quick-serve food court with five uniquely themed food stations onboard the Disney Wish. Now, while I wasn’t totally blown away by the pizza at Daisy’s Pizza Pies (let’s just say I didn’t ask for seconds), the food at Mickey’s Smokestack BBQ and Donald’s Cantina had my taste buds doing a little fiesta! I was honestly shocked by how delicious my Quick Service burrito bowl was at Donald’s Cantina! Everything was so fresh, flavorful, and filling—it made for the perfect “snackatizer” before my later rotational dining time. I was totally satisfied but still hungry for the next great meal to come. Disney Cruise Lines quick-service options were a true surprise hit for me! And don’t miss Marceline Market, a delightful buffet-style dining experience available for breakfast and lunch most days, featuring a wide variety of fresh, casual options that will please every palate!
If you’re craving something a little more upscale, you can book a reservation at Palo Steakhouse or Enchante—both adult-only locations (your kids are in good hands while enjoying the many kid-focused clubs while you live the fancy dining life!). I didn’t get to dine there this time around, but some of my Timeless Tales Travel colleagues practically lived at Palo, so I’ll just assume it’s as spectacular as it sounds.
Pirate Night: A Swashbuckling Adventure at Sea!
Ahoy, fellow adventurers! If you’re sailing during Pirate Night, get ready for an unforgettable evening! As the sun goes down, the ship transforms into a pirate paradise, complete with a themed dinner menu that’s all about hearty, flavorful dishes. The real showstopper? The exclusive fireworks display over the ocean, a unique experience only on Disney Cruise Line. It’s a stunning sight that perfectly caps off the night. So, grab your best pirate gear and dive into the festivities—between the great food, vibrant atmosphere, and
breathtaking fireworks, Pirate Night is a highlight of the cruise you won’t want to miss!
Lounges on the Disney Wish
While the Disney Wish has so much to explore, I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a quick shoutout to some of its incredible lounges. Consider these the “honourable mentions” of relaxation and good vibes. Whether you’re looking for a quiet retreat, a swanky cocktail, or just an excuse to explore the ship, these lounges each bring their own unique magic:

And then there’s the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, which honestly feels like stepping into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon—minus the Wookiee co-pilot (sadly). This lounge doesn’t just serve drinks; it transports you to a galaxy far, far away. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by sleek, Star Wars-inspired design and a massive “window” that make it feel like you’re zipping through hyperspace. One moment, you’re orbiting Tatooine; the next, you’re watching starships soar over Coruscant. It’s so immersive, It’s so immersive, I half-expected R2-D2 to roll by with a tray of drinks. The drink menu here? Let’s just say it’s worthy of a cantina on Canto Bight. From exotic, galaxy-inspired cocktails to options that make you feel like you’re celebrating with the Rebel Alliance, there’s something for every aspiring Jedi, bounty hunter, or Sith Lord. And if you’re lucky, you might just spot some Easter eggs that only a true fan would notice. Whether you’re plotting your next mission or just soaking up the interstellar vibes, this lounge is
a must-visit. Don’t miss your chance to raise a glass and toast to the galaxy—because this experience is one with the Force.
Kid and Teen Lounges
For families traveling with children and teens, the Disney Wish offers dedicated lounges designed just for them. The Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab provide a safe and fun environment for younger guests, filled with engaging activities and themed play areas.
Meanwhile, the Vibe and Edge lounges cater to teens, offering a chill space to hang out, make new friends, and participate in cool events. It’s the perfect way for kids to create magical memories while parents enjoy some time to themselves!
Entertainment on Board
When it comes to entertainment, the Disney Wish does not disappoint. The ship features a stunning Broadway-style theater where you can catch live performances of Disney classics, complete with dazzling costumes and spectacular staging. And if you’re a fan of movies, don’t miss the onboard movie theater, showcasing the latest Disney films. There’s truly something for everyone!
Castaway Cay: A Day in Paradise
Now, let’s talk about one of the most exciting stops on our cruise—Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. If you’ve ever dreamed of a tropical paradise, Castaway Cay is it. We spent a relaxing day at Serenity Bay, the adult-only section of the island, floating in crystal-clear waters and enjoying a delicious BBQ lunch (spoiler: the banana ice cream was the true MVP). But wait, there’s more! You can also snorkel at the family beach and explore Disney-themed sunken treasures. While the water was a bit choppy the day we went, the experience was still incredible. The crystal-clear water and “diving” for sunken treasure and statues, made for a memorable adventure.
My First Disney Cruise: A Sail-abration of Fun! – sea what I did there?
Overall, my first Disney Cruise aboard the Disney Wish was absolutely magical. From the beautiful ocean views to the non-stop entertainment, delicious food, and unforgettable memories, this trip was one for the books. If I had to give one piece of advice for adults traveling without kids, I’d recommend considering one of Disney’s smaller ships for a slightly quieter, more intimate experience. But honestly, no matter which ship you choose, you’re guaranteed a fantastic time.
